Antipredator Adaptations

We used digital photographs of water anoles (Anolis aquaticus) to determine how their rapid body color change is used to best camouflage with a range of natural backgrounds. Using ImageJ and a program called Quantitative Color and Pattern Analysis (QCPA), we were able to use visual models of avian predators to determine what their colors and patterns look like to their predators. We found that water anoles are able to plastically alter their color and patterns to be the most inconspicuous based on the different exposure level and substrates they were on.
